The project is using funding to support The Estuary Project which aims to get more children and young people out on the water. The project will provide water-based activities including a youth club and water sports for older people and people with disabilities. The project will target hard to reach groups and engage them in a taster programme to encourage long term participation in water based activities.

The Estuary Project

The funding will be used to reinstate the groups youth club for young people living with disadvantage. The project aims to support mental and physical wellbeing as well as build strong relationships in the aftermath of Covid-19.

Grant to Miss

A one-off, unrestricted grant of £6,825, equivalent to one regular quarterly payment for the organisation’s current grant.

Grant to Islington Boat Club (IBC)

£54,600 over two further and final years (2 x £27,300) towards the costs of 4 instructors for 7 hours per week each, for 39 weeks per annum.

Main Grants award

This project will use funding to run a water sports befriending project for young disabled people. This will enable the young people to learn new things and meet new friends.

Fully inclusive holiday activities

This project will use the funding to celebrate successes and raise awareness of new opportunities. This will be achieved by hosting a Christmas extravaganza and award ceremony for volunteers. This will enable the organisation to engage members and also recruit new volunteers through the delivery of the event and other activities.

£2,600 (6.5 days @£400 per day) to provide an eco-audit.

Eco-audit to Islington Boat Club (IBC)

£81,900 over 3 years (3 x £27,300) towards the costs of 4 instructors for 7 hours per week each, for 39 weeks per annum.

The group will use the funding to deliver recreational and social activities for the benefit of people over 50 years of age. This will improve health outcomes, reduce isolation, build confidence and self-esteem.

Towards the purchase of 16 mountain bikes for use in coach-training, maintenance and mentoring program by Islington Boat Club.

Inspiring young people through sport

Islington Boat Club offers a range of activities and courses for adults and young people. We are situated in the City Road Basin, entered via Graham Street, London N1 8JX.

An RYA approved training centre and staffed with Canoe England registered instructors, we offer many accredited courses for all ages over nine years.

We currently have an open access Youth Club on Saturdays (11am to 4pm).
